Fire Box USS Salem Quincy Shipyard

I haven’t had alot of time to shoot lately.

But I have learned that if you keep your camera with you, you will stumble over somethings that just command your attention.

I took my daughter and a friend to interview for the Ghost Ship at the Quincy Massachusetts Shipyard. I wasn’t sure how this was going to work, but I walked around the parking lot finding all kinds of rusty things.

The Mayor’s Office of Arts, Tourism & Special Events is currently has accepted me as one of the photographers for this event.

Through the eyes of our fellow Bostonians we are hoping to capture the essence and spirit of our fair city. I was asked to photograph Boston on Patriot’s Day 2011.

The best 25 photographs chosen will be displayed in the Mayor’s Gallery, the remaining pictures will adorn the hallways on the 2nd and 8th floors of Boston City Hall. The exhibition will take place May 23 – June 30, 2011.

Here are my choices:

Old City Hall, Boston, MA 2011

Ben Franklin at Old City Hall, Boston, MA 2011

I have been working on this project on and off since last summer. I have to say this has been the most enjoyable project I’ve had. I do love these statues.

I took a walk today when I could muster the energy to put on my boots. This is one of my favorite trees. Blackstone Park Boston’s South End.  And across the street, Franklin Square Park is just as magical.

Shawmut Ave has little hidden gems.

I don’t often get a snow day. It was fun to wake up, look outside and then just go back to bed. It rarely happens and I do enjoy it.

When it snows, you have two choices:  shovel or make snow angels.

Tractor in the Field

Tractor in the Field
The Riding in the Backseat series continues…..

I have been re-evaluating this series of images and I continue to find a few gems here.

Now lets take a moment to consider the tractor. The tractor is an inconspicuous, hard working machine. As this year comes to an end and I consider what is to come in the upcoming year, what better role model is there for guidance in life than a tractor?

The Tractor.

A tractor is a vehicle specifically designed to deliver a high tractive effort at slow speeds. The word tractor was taken from Latin, being the agent noun of trahere “to pull”.

I know I am generalizing the tractor, being that there are so many different variations and uses for different tractors. But overall,  the tractors best qualitites are a steady pace and ability to “pull” through.

To a  Happy New Year 2011!!

Fun Fact of the Day: Tractors don’t bother with odometers. Instead, usage is tracked in hours. I wish cars had time counters – imagine how people might change their driving behavior if constantly aware of how many hours of their lives were spent behind the wheel.

I have had the opportunity to get to know this artist from coming into Colortek. I have always admired her work and this is my favorite piece.

I  just thought I’d share this, because sometimes I feel like I get so inundated with mediocre work I tend to forget there are people that do have extraordinary talent.

Markings, 2005, oil on canvas 50 x 44 in.

Ringling Museum Garden Sarasota, FL

I spent my evening revisiting the Ringling Museum Rose Garden.  I do have an affinity for  these statues. I think these may become a series in their own right.
